In Anfield of Dreams, Neil Dunkin talks with great passion about the beautiful game in a language that football fans will appreciate. "At club after club," he writes, "players sign up in a fanfare of publicity, kiss the badge, suck the ring and slope away; managers are chauffeured to the front door and sneak out the back; directors hog the limelight and slink into obscurity; chief executives swear allegiance, then swap sides for more loot; shareholders sit on their speculative investments and flog them off to the highest bidders.
"The one constant, the only unchanging factor, the sole inalterable element is the fanÖ"
As readers might have ascertained, this is a book about Liverpool FC and of Dunkin's entertaining half-century odyssey as he follows the Anfield men from the second division to Istanbul. But this is not a book solely for Liverpool supporters; anyone who worries that football clubs have become highly-prized assets should read it and realise that that is not an inevitable state of affairs. Dunkin simply refuses to accept it.
