Tom Schneider enjoyed a hugely successful business career as an entrepreneur and executive of golf equipment companies, a man well qualified to talk about the business world. After he opted to leave the commercial scene however, Tom focused upon his passion for poker, something else he happened to be very good at. Indeed, so good was he that he became a professional and has since won two WSOP bracelets.
Drawing upon the lessons learnt in these two remarkably similar careers, Schneider has assembled a thoroughly entertaining collection of essays and tales in Oops! I Won Too Much Money.
At the book's core is what Schneider calls his "winning wisdom" which consists of what he has learned during his life, business career, and subsequently as a poker pro. Altogether, there are 61 missives and musings, which the diligent Schneider hopes will be of interest, or else of practical value, to his reader.
Schneider adapts a wonderfully chatty, almost whimsical, style which makes this book such an enjoyable read. It helps that he is enormously well-informed about business and poker; not surprisingly, he often finds similarities between the two pursuits.
Each piece contains an essential truth, a lesson worth learning, although Schneider does not preach: his is a humorous life guide
Of course, the problem with 'business wisdom' titles is that they're, well, a little similar and there are no eye-opening revelations here likely to change the face of global capitalism. Nonetheless, as one reader commented after reading Oops! I Won Too Much Money, "if you're looking for a surrogate dad to dispense general life, business, and poker advice, you could do a lot worse than reading this book." We couldn't agree more.
