Following a predictably frenetic and controversial start to the new Formula One season in Australia and Malaysia, early indications, coupled with victories for Messrs Raikkonen and Vettel, suggest that we're that we're in for another ultra-competitive campaign.

Yet Formula One drivers, team principals and the sport's administrators appreciate that just a few millimetres beneath F1's macho image lies a less combative characteristic, a force for good capable of raising significant sums for charity.

Caroline Reid and Christian Sylt, authors of Formula Money, the sport's financial Bible, and each replete with grand prix contact books to die for, have succeeded in harnessing the innate willingness of those involved in F1 to give something back and produced an outstanding work, primarily for the benefit of Great Ormond Street children's hospital.

Realising that plenty of leading sportsmen and women are happy to sign photographs of themselves to be auctioned at charity events, the authors flipped this idea on its head and asked the likes of Jensen Button, Lewis Hamilton, Mark Webber and a host of others to become the person in charge of the camera and take photographs of whatever they want. A psychiatrist might have a field day flicking through some of this work.

There are plenty of references to (and excellent photography of) 'the office', ie the inside of an F1 vehicle, intermingled with pictures of dogs, friends, waterfalls, beaches and, inevitably, stunning 'pit girls'. There's even a smattering of arty works and several atmospheric pieces, the best of which is, in your reviewer's opinion, the early morning balloons over Melbourne.

The original photographs were auctioned off at a charity dinner late last year, but they were so good that the authors decided to assemble them in an outsized book and sell it for the benefit of the same charity.

Here's a rare opportunity for grand prix fans, an insight into what life is like for F1 drivers and principals either at work or away from the track; it's a unique project, a sports book with a difference, the sale of which will confer enormous benefits on sick children. If you don't win the prize copy we have on offer (see below), buy it and feel good.
